A parallel world...
... of small and fuzzy animals that you can find living on the streets of Ljubljana. They are all handmade from recycled materials... each of them is quite unique and has its own name, backstory and character... you can follow their adventures through their Facebook page (here).
Animals of Ljubljana is a project created by Zanda Priedite one of the members of our collective.
We live close to each other so we can come out and play together in the afternoons but we have to be home by dark otherwise our mothers get worried...
I am a student of art criticism. Once I met Slavoj Žižek and I got inspired from his philosophy about culture. I plan to develop my own philosophy about art!
This is the exact spot where we first met, but there was much less locks when we were first here...
I like to go out and catch “sunshine vitamin” I heard that it is good for my bones and my teeth. But most importantly – it helps me to stay positive even when I feel a bit sad If you ask me about life advice I tell you – get some vitamin D!
I am a member of the Gourmet Union and my task is to taste as much world food as possible. And also to collect recipes. Good place to be in Ljubljana for this is the "Open kitchen", I can meet my colleagues there, try different things in one spot, listen to music and grow in my professional area.
I like to count. How many birds are on trees, how many cars are in the parking spot, how many people passing in 10 minutes, how many stars are in the sky, how many airplanes flying above me, how many different bread types are in the shop..My name is Polona - 6 letters.
Every saturday I go to the city to call my friend Laura. I don't need a smartphone. If i want to know weather or time of day or some good recipe I can call: 1988. And also this phone I can never loose!
When I don't know what to do I go to my favourite bench in Ljubljana! On it it's written: "Mo mo da da tuk tuk jey". I don't know this language but i imagine that it means: "Sit and wait"...
I am a member of the group "Weight Watchers". I like to see how much grams is one banana, or three kiwi or 10 walnuts. But about my or my neighbour's or your's weight i am not interested - too big numbers and anyway - there is nothing to worry about.
"The early bird gets the worm!" - my daily mantra to success. Yes, yes! And leads me to the benefit that i can rest before the afternoon in one of the pine-trees in Ljubljana centre and order a drink.
I am Emir. I am from Kazakhstan. I am dancer. Folk dancing also pasodoble and hip-hop. I am here to visit relatives. It is very beautiful in Ljubljana. But i did not know you have still monarchy. Today I met your three kings. Such a big honor!
Reading is my food. I read everything. Jumbo posters, books, newspapers, bills, advertisements from Lidl, Hofer and H&M. I read brochures, other people's letters, traffic signs and I read from hands and eyes. I read fast - 23 words in one minute...
I write too, but it takes more time.
My name is Gaja. Singing makes me happy! I sing everywhere, silent or loud - during walking or bicycling, or cooking, on streets, on tables, in shops, on birthday events and at Christmas time.. I heard that singing can even stop wars! Sing, sing, sing!
My name is Hugo. Hugo the boss... I have the key to a beautiful yard with a fountain in the centre of Ljubljana. If you need a place to park you can call me... but don't park for more than an hour or the neighbours will get mad.
I want to enjoy this day even if it is raining outside and you can see in the sky all the 50 shades of grey, and the temperature is showing around +3. Anyway - I put my colorful outfit and I feeeeeeeel good!
Golden city, golden town... I lay down on golden leaves, stretching my feet and dreaming sweet golden dreams...
I like to listen. Sounds. Stories. Songs. I like to listen Leonard Cohen. And my name is Leonard, too.
I like to go to the cinema... especially romantic movies... i love Jane Austin... i know its just fiction but sometimes imagination is the most real thing... right now i am imagining that it would be really nice if there was some snow falling...
I am an activist. I spend most of my time in Metelkova but it is important to also be active in the whole city. I don't like Fascists or red lights...
I am a seasonal worker - I collect chestnuts from September on and deliver them to my friend in city centre where we roast and sell them. I like when the city smells of roasted chestnuts.
I grew up in Ljubljana, near by castle. This is my area, I know everything and everybody here. I even remember tourists who are coming back after some years to visit the city again. I feel like a king. But a good king. Who wants to guide, communicate, share stories and information, go hunt together and watch movies in open cinema together. But one day I would like to go travel, to step out of my comfort zone and be a tourist, a stranger in another place.
Green colour is like a magnet for me. I feel "the green" from 1000 km away. That is why I am here, I flew from Africa through Gibraltar - because Ljubljana is European Green Capital 2016! Usually you can meet me in the centre, next to the City Hall. I am there working as a volunteer - guarding the walls of beautiful plants.
My profession is a dressmaker. I am the best in town. Ok, there is one or two more..And I must say people 's fashion in Ljubljana is great!
I am studying landscape design and you can already see some of my work around the city. I work with small size projects. My motto is: Less is more... and small is big!
Ljubljana has very good coffee, wherever you go. Usually i don't drink coffee with milk, but cappuccino - i love it! And I love Sundays, especially early mornings, when the city is still sleeping, neighbours are not jet making noise in the kitchen and the alarm is silent. I can put my rose on my cheeks, brush my tail and without a rush walk to a caffe without a plan. It is a little thing but brings a lot of happiness.
Hey, I am Teo! I am a driver. Van driver. Good driver. I like to be van driver!
